Healthy infrared deep warmth.

What is infrared?

Infrared is a natural electromagnetic radiation that is invisible to the human eye and which is radiated by an object depending upon its temperature. This infrared radiation heats when in contact with the skin; hence the popular expression "warmth radiation". The sun emits infrared radiation just as much an oven or a human body itself. This can all be made visible with the aid of an infrared camera.

Infrared deep warmth warms the body directly, but not by means of the surrounding air. A small example illustrates this: if we stand in the sun we become warm, yet if we move into the shade we become cooler - although the air temperature is the same.

The warming infrared radiation should not be confused with ultraviolet radiation. UV radiation provides a sun tan, but can cause severe damage to the skin.

There is a difference between infrared A, B and C rays i.e. short-wave, medium-wave and long-wave infrared. In accordance with a physical law (Planck's Law), the radiation temperature of an object is decisive for the proportionate distribution of A,B and C radiation. Objects with less than 300° Celsius radiate almost pure C radiation. Considerably higher temperatures are required (over 1500° Celsius) to generate substantial proportions of infrared A.

Short-wave infrared A is only used in medicine e.g. in the case of Infrared deep warmth as therapie (Hyperthermie). It penetrates the skin by up to 5 mm and thus bypasses the warmth receptors. Thus the perception of warmth is limited and it can result in uncontrolled warming or even burning. For this reason, medical supervision is required.

Infrared C and B penetrate less deeper into cells and stimulate warmth receptors. In this way, you feel the warmth and can decide for yourself how much infrared is of benefit to your body.

How infrared deep warmth works.

The radiation emitted by the special lava sand ceramic heaters used in the Physiotherm infrared cabin is almost entirely infrared C, at 300 - 320° Celsius with a small proportion of around 3% infrared B.

Initially, the cutaneous vessels in the irradiated skin of the back expand. The increased circulation is seen as a natural and evenly visible reddening. The warmth is absorbed by blood and lymph fluid and transported to deeper layers of tissue.

The warmth then quickly distributes itself from the vertebral region into the internal region of the body, so that the entire body is warmed. This form of infrared deep warmth is completely natural and is perceived as being very pleasant.

Since the body endeavours to maintain its core temperature at a constant of around 37° Celsius, the warmth activates the regulatory mechanisms which then distribute warmth to the surrounding areas. Blood circulates well throughout the skin, perspiration forms and then evaporates, which has a cooling effect which counteracts the  excess warmth. During a session of 30 minutes duration, the core body temperature increases by 0.2 to 0.6° Celsius, which is of no consequence in terms of damage to health and does not have to be medically supervised (cf. clinical study).

Applications of Physiotherm low temperature infrared technology, with a typical cabin temperature of around 35° have no significant strain on the cardiovascular system.

Scientifically proven and medically recommended.

An international team of scientists and doctors has conducted a comprehensive survey into the effects of Physiotherm low temperature infrared cabins, compared with a "normal" infrared cabin.
It was shown that the use of a Physiotherm Far Infrared Sauna has many physiologically positive effects upon the human body, e.g.

  •  Support for the immune system

  •  Increased generation of pain-reducing semiochemicals

  •  Increase of the core body temperature

  •  Training for the cardiovascular system

  •  Gentle reduction in blood pressure

  •  Increased circulation of blood to skin and tissue

  • Increased metabolism and improvement in vascularization

  • Increased detoxification and cleansing

This fundamental data explains why Far Infrared Saunas can be of assistance in the case of many different kinds of disorders.

This confirmed scientifically what over 300,000 satisfied Physiotherm users worldwide had already experienced with their own body: warmth works.
