Medically recommended and scientifically attested: Physiotherm works.

In an interview given on the occasion of his presentation of December 2005 in Vienna of the results of the scientific study, Dr. med. Ralf Kleef, the internationally recognised hyperthermia expert, had this to say about Physiotherm Far Infrared Saunas.

“The medical course at my alma mater, the University of Witten-Herdecke, already included a component focussing on holistic, complementary medical treatment approaches. At that time, I was particularly fascinated by the work of Dr. Cooley from the USA. As early as the end of the 18th century, he had observed that some cancer patients were cured if they developed a high fever. Today, Cooley is seen internationally as the ‘father of immune therapy’.

In the 20th century, various study groups investigated ways and means of inducing fevers artificially for therapeutic purposes. This gradually led to the development of modern instruments which can either raise the temperature of the whole body to 42°C or just diseased tissue locally (hyperthermia).

After graduation, my interest in the subject of fever took me in the early 90’s to a specialist oncological clinic and from there to New York to the Memorial Sloan Cettering Cancer Center and then on to Washington, to the National Institute of Health (NIH). After completing of studies there on ‘Fever therapy’ in the department for alternative medicine, I moved to Vienna.

For the past 8 years, I have been the head of the Institute of Warmth and Immune Therapy (IWIT) in that city. At IWIT, fever therapy is used in the treatment of a broad range of ailments, either on its own or combined with other forms of treatment. Depending on the facts of the case, various instruments and associated therapies are used – though all these forms of treatment require strict and very rigorous intensive medical supervision and care.”

Medically recommended: The Physiotherm Far Infrared Sauna.

"An essential component of a holistic treatment concept is aftercare and what is known as 'secondary prevention'. This is intended to stabilise the treatment outcome and either to prevent or at least to delay any reappearance of the ailment."

On the special infrared technology of Physiotherm cabins.

"Physiotherm low temperature infrared technology was the first to give me the opportunity here of recommending warmth therapy for home use as aftercare treatment and preventive health care. Body core temperature rises slowly and at an even rate and remains within a range which poses no risk to health.  The temperature regulation also allows the blood to be distributed gradually throughout the skin, which in turn allows the body to adapt without placing any undue strain on the circulatory system.

This is not in itself a treatment intervention and yet: the multifarious, positive effects of gently raising core body temperature can – if applied according to the instructions – be used widely at home without any medical supervision.

A crucial factor is definitely that the manufacturer has actively undertaken scientific research and continues to do so. This has created data on low temperature infrared technology which allows me to make an individual, patient-centred assessment of the benefits. It was because of this research work that I declared my willingness to head a clinical study. Besides other safety parameters, the special focus of this study was on the defence system of the human body."

In other words, Physiotherm not only manufactures very high-quality low temperature infrared cabins based on unique technology but also engages in rigorous medical research into the fundamentals in accordance with the most up-to-date standards.  Medical experts with academic and practical backgrounds are regularly consulted. For example, an international scientific team headed by Dr. med. Ralf Kleef has recently compared the Physiotherm Far Infrared Sauna concept with a conventional infrared warmth cabin in a controlled clinical pilot study – with positive results.

Benefits of Physiotherm Far Infrared Saunas.

The initial results drawn from the extensive data were presented and assessed on 2nd December 2005 in Vienna on the occasion of a press conference by Professor Dr. med. R. Saller, Universitätsspital Zürich, Dr. rer.-nat. M. Schmolz, EDI GmbH Reutlingen, Dr. med. O. Pecher, GenYouIn GmbH München and Dr. med. R. Kleef, IWIT Vienna.

18 healthy, male subjects took part in the study and were assigned, entirely at random, either to the Physiotherm Far Infrared Sauna or to a conventional infrared warmth cabin. Only the study personnel were aware of what treatment each subject was receiving. Before, during and after the sessions, readings were taken of the circulation, blood oxygen saturation, core body temperature and many other blood and immune system parameters.

Taken together, the findings proved what 300,000 satisfied users around the world have already learnt:

Use of Physiotherm for health reasons

• supports the immune system

• increases the release of pain-alleviating neurotransmitters

• gently raises core body temperature

•  has the effect of fitness training on the circulatory system

• gently lowers blood pressure

• increases the blood supply to the skin and tissue

• raises the metabolic rate and improves the supply of oxygen to tissue

• enhances detoxification and cleansing.
